The Madison Youth Arts Center (MYArts) is seeking an experienced, relationship-driven Development Director to lead fundraising strategy for one of the most exciting collaborative youth arts partnerships in Wisconsin.

This is a unique shared-services leadership opportunity supporting MYArts, Children’s Theater of Madison (CTM), and Madison Youth Choirs (MYC). About the Role

The Development Director provides strategic leadership for fundraising across the MYArts collaborative while directly leading development efforts for MYArts. Working closely with the MYArts Executive Director, CTM and MYC leadership, and volunteer leaders, this position develops comprehensive fundraising strategies, identifies new philanthropic opportunities, cultivates major donors, and strengthens the long-term financial sustainability of all three organizations.

This role combines strategic planning with hands-on fundraising and offers the opportunity to shape one of the region’s most innovative shared-services models for nonprofit arts organizations.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Development Leadership

  • Develop and implement multi-year fundraising strategies for MYArts while providing strategic guidance to CTM and MYC.
  • Create annual development plans, campaign strategies, donor engagement initiatives, and stewardship programs.
  • Partner with organizational leadership to align fundraising priorities with strategic goals.

Major Gifts & Fundraising

  • Build and manage a portfolio of individual, corporate, foundation, and major gift prospects.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors through meaningful relationships.
  • Lead fundraising campaigns and special initiatives.
  • Support grant strategy, proposal development, and reporting.

Shared Services Leadership

  • Coordinate development strategy across MYArts, CTM, and MYC.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration, efficiency, and shared fundraising success.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to development staff and administrative coordinators.

Community Engagement

  • Serve as a visible ambassador for youth arts in the Greater Madison community.
  • Build relationships with major donors, sponsors, community partners, foundations, and civic leaders.
  • Represent MYArts at events and community functions.

Development Operations

  • Monitor fundraising performance using data and analytics.
  • Oversee donor database management, gift processing, reporting, and stewardship practices.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical fundraising standards and organizational policies.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of progressive fundraising or development experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of success securing major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Experience developing fundraising strategies supported by donor research and data analysis.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to think strategically while remaining actively engaged in execution.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • A demonstrated track record of leading to fundraising programs that generate at least $2 million annually through a diversified portfolio that includes major gifts, foundations, corporate partnerships, annual giving, grants, and special campaigns.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit arts, education, or youth-serving organizations.
  • Experience working across multiple organizations or within a shared-services environment.
  • Grant writing and corporate sponsorship experience.
  • Familiarity with donor management software and fundraising analytics.
  • Knowledge of the Greater Madison philanthropic community.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, arts administration, communications, or a related field.

About the Role

The Director of Marketing serves as a shared-services resource for MYArts, Children’s Theater of Madison (CTM), and Madison Youth Choirs (MYC), providing strategic marketing support while identifying opportunities for collaboration and shared communications.

For MYArts, this position is responsible for implementing marketing strategies and campaigns with the support of the MYArts administrative team. The Director of Marketing will coordinate marketing initiatives across digital and print platforms, develop promotional materials, support organizational communications, and help bring new programs, services, classes, performances, rentals, and community initiatives to market.

This role also brings product development expertise to MYArts by identifying opportunities for new offerings, helping shape how they are positioned, and developing marketing plans that successfully launch and promote them.

Working collaboratively with leadership across all three organizations, the Director of Marketing will help strengthen visibility, promote shared initiatives when appropriate, and ensure each organization maintains its unique voice and identity while benefiting from a collaborative approach.

What You’ll Do

Marketing Implementation & Product Development

  • Implement marketing strategies and campaigns for MYArts.
  • Coordinate print, digital, email, website, and social media marketing initiatives.
  • Develop marketing plans and promotional campaigns for performances, classes, camps, rentals, fundraising events, and community programs.
  • Lead the development and launch of new MYArts products, services, programs, and revenue-generating initiatives.
  • Conduct market research to identify customer needs and emerging opportunities.
  • Develop positioning and go-to-market strategies for new programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the MYArts administrative team to execute marketing projects from concept through completion.

Shared Services Marketing

  • Serve as the shared marketing resource for MYArts, CTM, and MYC.
  • Provide strategic marketing guidance and consultation to organizational leadership.
  • Coordinate collaborative campaigns and communications that benefit all three organizations.
  • Identify opportunities to share creative resources, vendors, advertising, and marketing tools.
  • Support organization-specific marketing initiatives while respecting the unique identity and goals of each organization.

Communications & Community Engagement

  • Develop compelling marketing content and storytelling across multiple communication channels.
  • Manage websites, email communications, social media, and digital marketing campaigns.
  • Coordinate media relations and public communications.
  • Build relationships with community partners, schools, arts organizations, sponsors, and media outlets.
  • Represent MYArts at community events and promotional opportunities as needed.

Marketing Operations

  • Develop annual marketing calendars and campaign schedules.
  • Coordinate creative projects with internal staff and external vendors.
  • Monitor campaign performance using analytics and customer feedback.
  • Continuously improve marketing effectiveness through evaluation and innovation.
  • Manage marketing budgets and vendor relationships.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of progressive marketing, communications, branding, or related experience.
  • Demonstrated success implementing integrated marketing campaigns across multiple communication platforms.
  • Experience developing and launching new products, programs, or services.
  • Strong writing, communication, storytelling, and presentation skills.
  • Experience with digital marketing, social media, websites, email marketing, and content management.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple organizations and stakeholders while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit arts, performing arts, education, or youth-serving organizations.
  • Experience working within a shared-services environment.
  • Experience with CRM systems, website management, Google Analytics, and digital advertising.
  • Knowledge of branding, graphic design, and creative project management.
  • Familiarity with the Greater Madison arts and nonprofit community.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, business, arts administration, or a related field.
